Our Story
Mawadda began with a question: What if we could nurture a deep love for the deen in young children—walking beside them with high himma and unconditional care?
In 2014, we ran our first summer program for Western children, centered on immersive Arabic learning. It was a beautiful success: children memorized long sūrahs and many hadith in a short time—through play, joy, and purpose. But as our family grew, we paused the program after three years to focus on homeschooling.
From there, Besim—Mawadda’s co-founder—began crafting faith-rooted, phonics-rich English Language Arts books from an Islamic perspective. As word spread, parents began reaching out—asking not just for his books, but also for help teaching his program, and for guidance in finding trusted tutors for their children’s other needs. Around the same time, educators and subject-matter experts approached him as well, seeking his help to develop an online course system so they too could teach in a meaningful, faith-centered way.
Mawadda was born from this growing demand—a place where students, parents, and teachers could come together around live, love-filled teaching and a vision for a fully integrated Islamic education.
